Stand up

I've not posted in awhile for several reasons. I'm back today because my limited social media is blowing up with people sharing news of the administration's intent to revoke 501(c) (3) status from U.S. nonprofits. This comes after a presidential rant about revoking Harvard's tax status.
Couple of notes from lawyers. The president doesn't have the power to do this. To any nonprofit, Harvard or otherwise. While the current administration has already signaled its lack of interest in the rule of law or due process, the rest of us must keep demanding that the rule of law is the rule.
Many of the current president's executive orders are barely more articulate than his social media posts. They carry the same legal weight.
There are about 1.5 million 501 (c) (3) nonprofits in the U.S. Stand together. Stand up. Stand with Harvard (I'm a Yalie, that hurts to write, but it's right). Who knows what courage will get you? My guess - the return of the rule of law, a more functional democracy, people being held accountable for the laws they break, and, heck, it might even help with fundraising.
Fight this. Prepare. Cross your Ts, dot your Is, and keep your lawyers close. Stand up. Remind your congressional representatives of the work you do in THEIR districts. Don't give credibility where none is deserved. That's how we can step back from the brink he's hellbent on driving us over.
PS: Today, I had a pleasant retributional thought. Now that the administration has violated the critical norm of not sharing IRS data with the rest of the government, the next administration (or THIS congress) should pass laws requiring that the companies that receive government grants must pay ALL U.S. taxes and they cannot move tax burdens offshore. Their CEOs and the rest of C suite included. Looking at you, Musk, and countless other corporate and c suite grifters. No tax dollars for tax cheats. Simple enough.
